October 31 - The Green Tunnels Open Up

Sorry for the late start today, Dora: got busy reading. Yesterday, I noted that some trees are still have most of their leaves, indeed many green leaves. Here's an interesting case of it changing in one block. Three blocks south of our place is Nelson street. Looking west, Nelson still has the "green tunnel" look, where the leafy trees meet in the middle, stories above the street.

But rotating 180 degrees and looking east, that block has the same trees, but they have lost over half their leaves, making the sky visible in the middle, and the "green tunnel" is gone until spring.

This is not a bad thing; as the daylight grows very short and is mostly low in the sky all day, this makes the streets a lot lighter, especially in late afternoon. Daylight saving ends this weekend, of course, and we'll be glad all the green tunnels are opened up by about 3PM every day.
