2024 June 20: I Got in the Newspaper

I've realized over the decades, that nothing lasts quite as long as a screenshot; all I have of some college programming are literal (paper) photographs of the computer screen. So I screen-shotted the salient bits of my interview with Calgary Herald columnist, Don Braid:

I've skipped the odd paragraph rather than screenshot the endless parade of ads that break up the "paper" online, these days. One reason I still get the paper on paper - the digital ads.

It was probably a dumb thing to do, but Braid didn't take advantage of the information to jump all over anybody, and I got the public eye off of beating up on my old friends at work for a day, and I managed to get a few points of fact injected into the conversation.

I'm not sure why Communications decided to be so short with actual communicating during this period, why it had to be retirees that let Calgary know there were engineers all over this problem, had done 20 years of mains inspections, do have the knowledge to figure this out and fix it.

I know they have a belief that the more information you supply, the more trouble you'll expose yourself to: endless more questions, every bit of information you give turned into another attack.

But I think it's a mistake, if you've really done your job correctly - at least in engineering, where there are provable results, definite standards. Every government lately, likes to promise transparency, and then not deliver.

I'm all for the transparency. We did as well as anybody could have; as I said, Mother Nature beat us anyway, because she's a bitch, never runs out of surprises. But we'll get on top of this one, and make Calgary proud again. I have complete confidence in that.
