2019 Sept 21 - Stumps and Strikes

As you'll have noticed, the declining availability of flowers around here - at least flowers I've never photographed - has me putting out any random pictures from my day, these days. Today, it was that I was caught with my eyes widening as I passed this stump along a park pathway. The moss had followed the lines in the whorls of the word, making a dramatic bit of abstract art.

And the other day, I heard an awful racket along Hastings Street as I walked through town, to come across a deliberately noisy staff strike at the Pinnacle Hotel (the news said, at several others, as well). One guy had, I think, one of those "Vuvuzela" horns that were so annoying during that World Cup. Frankly, it was good to see. I want people to be able to make a decent living in Vancouver supplying all the services that retired old me now needs. These guys just had signs saying "one job should be enough". Amen.

I always notice the Pinnacle, going past: formerly "The International", it was where Connie and I had our honeymoon, and started our love affair with Vancouver - an affair that has become a marriage!
