2019 Sept 26 - Construction in Progress

We awoke this morning to a real racket. They didn't have to dig this hole; it's only been covered up by metal plates for nearly 3 months while they moved the pipe construction down the block and around the corner at the speed of an advancing glacier. (Two months after we got home, they've nearly made it two blocks away, but not quite. A block per month is really a record in my construction experience. Not a good record.)

It really is nice, after years watching construction, to have this view. If I were making a movie and wanted to clarify the dig process to the audience, I'd ask for a crane shot (these days, more likely a drone shot) at about this altitude and position. It's like having a box seat. I wish they'd started an hour late, though.

Speaking of construction, how about these two dynamic action shots of Connie at work:

First, Connie getting some painting done in your spare bathroom in Calgary, last fall sometime. Then, it's Connie in our own spare room here, just before the Barretts arrived, getting the new window shades in.

I never did have to become a handy guy; I just went to work and kept the cheques rolling in, and Connie learned all the painting, hammering, measuring, and cutting that was ever needed for either house. Her patience and love of precision were the right temperament for all of it; I was fine for outside decks and bash-to-fit-paint-to-cover, but Connie's work, especially her painting, is indistinguishable from that of professionals, not matter how many times she has to measure before cutting.
